Whether it was leading a retail team, promoting inmate rehabilitation or serving in the military, Phil Rader’s career experience has drawn him to education. Rader will now share his knowledge and his bright personality in his new role as the Quincy Site Director at Plumas Charter School. 

During an interview, Rader said he is passionate about long-term goals for students including having a plan for all graduating seniors. “I want the parents to know we provide a supportive environment and that I am available anytime to assist and welcome feedback.” He said that employee and staff development are important to him, as is using evidence-based and innovative methods. “I love reviewing recent research in order to develop a more effective or well-rounded curriculum and/or school environment,” he said. 

Rader grew up in Humboldt County until he moved to Chico for school. He attended Chico State University where he earned his bachelor's degree in both Social Science and Sociology. After Chico State, he graduated from The University of Arizona Global with his master’s in Criminal Justice and another bachelor's degree in Social and Criminal Justice. 

His career trajectory includes 10 years spent in upper management for retailers, Home Depot and Target. From there, he went on to serve as a Sheriff’s Deputy on the Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T) and Mobile Booking Unit with the Nashville Sheriff’s Office. During his time there, he received the officer of the year award. 

His law enforcement path led Rader and his wife, Sierra Blanton to Quincy where he worked for Plumas County Probation as a Deputy Probation Officer, specializing in promoting the rehabilitation and reintegration of those released from jail and prison. He also serves as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves in Security Forces. Outside of his work responsibilities, he enjoys hiking, training, working out, reading and camping. 

As for his new role at PCS, Rader wants to establish a school climate that provides a safe and nurturing atmosphere, a sense of belonging and a feeling of well-being for students, staff and parents to create a productive learning environment. “I am looking forward to providing active engagement with all of the students, staff and parents,” he said.
