Students in Feather River College’s rodeo program visited Plumas Charter School’s Quincy Learning Center for an afternoon of roping and rodeo fun Sept. 26. Lisa Kelly, the K-12 pathway coordinator for the Feather River Community College District, hosted by PCS, reported that the assembly included information about rodeo as a sport and a popular college program. The FRC student athletes also shared information about equipment, safety, and roping techniques.
Phil Rader, Quincy Learning Center site director, orchestrated the event with Zack Brown, FRC rodeo coach. “Feather River College is our ‘partner in education’ and bringing college students on campus to interact with our K-12 students is extremely engaging,” said Rader.
Following the assembly, students were invited to try out their skills roping calf dummies. The team also invited students to meet Rocket, a horse belonging to Eva Jarman, an FRC student from Hawaii. Concluding the event, rodeo team members awarded the young ropers a “golden ticket” to the FRC Rodeo, which will be held Oct. 6 and 7 at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds. The rodeo is free to the public.
